EOC Week 7: Phileas Fogg's Newest Treat

Introducing my new discovery straight from the islands of the Philippines. During my travels there, I soon discovered a tribe of indigenous people on the hillsides of the luscious rice paddies.  They lived amongst their most prized livestock—baboy. Baboy, [what I shortly discovered meant pig] roamed the side of their human counterparts but they also fed the people. I saw the children munching on a snack of sorts. They looked like a puffy potato chip. I asked the kids, “What do you call this?” They smiled, chuckled a little, and replied, “Chicharron.” What’s more, the kids had a bowl of a clear, liquid seasoning—what we Americans know as vinegar. Unable to resist any longer, I asked if I could try the snack for myself. Oh my! What a nice surprise! The flavor: a zesty and salty fusion of flavor and crunch. I knew that I had to bring this Filipino snack back home to share with my friends.

Back in the States, I plan to make Chicharron bites, a perfect partner for your favorite brew. Coming in small chip bags, the Chicharron bites come pre-seasoned with vinegar but also include a small vinegar packet with light seasoning mixed in. The salty nature of the Chicharron allows for the brew of your choice to quench the mightiest of thirst and enhance the flavor. The perfect snack at the perfect size—that’s what we believe. We are currently experimenting with different flavors of our new treat, trying new seasonings and possible variations while keeping the authentic, hillside taste I experienced in my travels. Hopefully, you all will love this treat as much as I did. For the beer lover [or not] in your life, you’ll be sure to walk away with an experience. What that experience is? You’ll never know until you try! Grab a bag at a store near you!
